is a free home-based preschool programme for children aged 3-1/2 to 5 years old.

The HIPPY Mission:

If you want to help your pre-school child make a successful start to their education enroll with HIPPY now FREE.___ ENROLL

Parents receive a weekly packet of preschool activities to do with their children. Working with other parents and with HIPPY home tutors, parents learn how to be great teachers to their preschoolers. The children learn important school-readiness skills including:

Listening
Pencil and cutting skills
Shapes and colours
Story recall
Logical thinking
Counting and maths

As part of HIPPY, families receive free storybooks and other preschool materials. The materials are specific to New Zealand, and have a multicultural emphasis. This programme is a fun way to help children get ready for school.

New entrant teachers praise HIPPY graduates for being really ready for school. HIPPY can be done at the same time as Kindy or Kohanga Reo, and will enhance the work children are doing at an Early Childhood Education Centre.
